About the Event
Ever wondered what happens after you hit the flush button on your toilet? Or where soap suds end up after swirling down the bath hole? Queensland Urban Utilities operates at the Oxley Sewage Treatment Plant which treats domestic wastewater and trade waste. Join a bus trip and see how applied science and engineering are protecting the Moreton Bay. Covered shoes, a hat, long trousers and long sleeves must be worn.
Leaving the Wastewater Treatment Plant, we will visit Brisbane Markets, that is the Fruit, Vegetable and Flower Markets at Rocklea. The Markets initially operated in Roma Street in the City but moved to this purpose-built site at Rocklea in 1964. This is a very large site and although much of the buying and selling occurs before 9am, our guide will explain the workings of the various sections.
BYO food. Bus will pick up and drop off from Browne Street, Corinda Railway Station
Bookings essential. Free for OCCA members and $20 for non-members.
