Visit one of Brisbane’s newest Men’s Sheds to see members building nesting boxes for lorikeets, which will be for sale on the day. The 33 members of the Oxley Men’s Shed work on a range of local projects, including maintenance work at a nearby church hall and cemetery. The event concludes with a free morning tea.

Picnic under the trees at the Norman Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee (N4C) Open Day. Celebrate the opening of our refurbished green-focussed community building. The building showcases a new community mural, building sustainability initiatives and merging of environment and art. Enjoy food, wine and song while learning about the natural environment and the first whole of catchment urban water resources management project in Australia, Norman Creek 2026, presented by Brisbane City Council and N4C. Take the opportunity to have your say about this exciting new vision of our catchment. The event will include face painting, a children’s mural/collage activity, lunchtime BBQ with a bit of pizazz, live music and entertainment, stalls selling interesting foods, art displays, and a basket making workshop for adults using sustainably gathered natural materials.

Do you like to grow your own? Venture into the wonderful world of sustainable gardening at the Carindale Sustainability Centre Open Day. The centre features vegie patches, a sensory garden and a bush tucker garden, along with some very happy chickens! Learn all about living with native wildlife in urban Brisbane through displays and presentations. Take of a tour of the gardens and native plant nursery and then join in a soap making workshop. Get to know members of the local catchment group over a free BBQ lunch. This event suitable for all ages. Event hosted by Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee Inc. and made possible by an Energex Community Grant and the Bulimba Creek Environment Fund.

Set up in May 2011, the Nyanda Community Garden already features more than 20 garden patches, and has become a popular and very productive community space on the grounds of Nyanda State High School. Learn about worm farms, composting and growing vegies at the garden open day. Vegie seedlings and potted plants will also be on sale. Share gardening tips and a cuppa with members of the garden team. Visit a thriving community nursery, learn how to propagate native seeds and prick out seedlings and purchase some plants at the Nyanda Community Nursery open day. The morning starts with a short walk through the Rocky Waterholes Creek revegetation site and the Nyanda Community Gardens. Afterwards enjoy morning tea with volunteers from the Oxley Creek Catchment Association, which operates the nursery, at Nyanda State High School.
